Barbara Leahey

Barbara McCorry Leahey, 77, of Leland, NC, passed away January 15, 2022 at home after an extended illness. Mrs. Leahey was born in Baldwin, Long Island, NY on November 13, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Mary McCorry and Robert J. McCorry. She was a retired teacher and taught for 25 years at Joel Barlow High School in Redding, CT. She loved teaching at Joel Barlow where she made many life-long friends. She was a graduate of Western Connecticut State University and received a M.A. from Fairfield University, Fairfield CT. She also volunteered her time by teaching English to adult immigrants. Mrs. Leahey loved golf and enjoyed many years playing at Lake Waramaug Country Club in New Preston CT as well as in North Carolina. Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Thomas Leahey Jr., her son, Thomas Leahey Ill and his wife Carolyn, her daughter Megan Leahey and her partner Michael Buydos, and her grandchildren Conor Francis, Jack Francis and Ryan Francis. She is also survived by her brother Robert J. McCorry Jr. of Texas, her sister Geraldine Cote of Michigan and her sister Patricia Bereczki of Washington state. A sister, Mary Ellen Ranick of Florida, predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Leahey's honor may be made to SECU Family House Online Giving, Wilmington, NC, at nhrmc.org.
