Edward Michael Oakley

March 11, 1948 — May 12, 2022

WILMINGTON - Edward Michael Oakley 1948-2022 of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away May 12 in Wilmington, NC.

He was the son of the late Garland Lea and Beulah Kate Whitefield Oakley.
He is survived by two daughters Robin Oakley Seibert of NC and Katherine Dedonis-Oakley of Idaho, one son, Carl Oakley of CA, a sister, Barbara Mansfield of VA, his very close friend Mary Reid from VA, a stepsister, Jean Fogleman and a stepbrother, Reid Overcash, both from NC. Not to mention a long list of many, many friends.

Ed was born in Roxboro, NC and graduated from Roxboro High school where he excelled in academics and sports. He was a quarter-back for the football team, editor of the yearbook and one of the eight Outstanding Seniors. From there he graduated from NC State with a degree in Electrical Engineering, where he was tapped into the National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi. He went on to receive a Master’s Degree from Stanford University in CA.

After about 15 years in the workforce, he ventured out with a coworker who shared similar ideas and started a consulting company, now called Enlightened Leadership International, Inc. He co-authored a book with Doug Krug titled Enlightened Leadership: Getting to the Heart of Change. His latest book is titled: Answering Your Wake-Up Call: How to Snap Back From an Unwanted Life Change and Thrive Again and was an Amazon #1 best seller.

Ed led leadership seminars for managers in 67 different countries. He was always looking for ways to enhance people's lives, whether it be in the workforce or in their personal lives. In the last few years, Ed's passion for helping others to thrive developed into a process called Enlightened Transformation™ (ET). ET is a simple, but powerful process to enhance people's lives and help deal with life’s challenges, beyond conscious, subconscious, mindset, and emotional issues. ET helps in optimizing your life, that leads to your best Self… your true Self! This process is the culmination of his life’s work in helping others.

Ed lived for many years in beautiful Colorado, enjoying snow skiing, hiking, tennis and golf. He also loved traveling the world, visiting many countries. He later relocated to Florida, where he enjoyed living by the water, biking, and watching pelicans fish.

Ed was a son, brother, husband, father, friend, author, pilot, entrepreneur, innovator, and adventurer. Ed loved life and lived it to the fullest. He will be missed by so many.
