Gustavo Ignacio Flood-Goyes, 84, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on July 29th, 2023.
Gustavo was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on May 2nd, 1939, to Ítalo Octavio Flood- Sandoval and Zoila Belen Goyes.
He was raised by his father and his older siblings on the family hacienda (farm) as his mother passed away when he was only 8 years old. There was a total of seven siblings — six brothers and one sister.
He moved to the neighboring country of Colombia, South America in 1959 with the help of his older brother Octavio Flood. This is where he learned the trade of craft jewelry. In 1967 Octavio again helped the brothers to immigrate to the United States. They moved to New York City, where he continued to master the trade of craft jewelry. His work could capture the eye of anybody who could recognize beauty. The precision and talent he embodied was radiating off of him daily, through his work and in his everyday life.
In 1967, Gustavo met Luz America Chavez in New York, NY. They later moved to Long Beach, California where they went on to have 2 children — Gustavo Ignacio Flood, Jr. (52) and Patricia Jeanette Flood (50).
On December 21, 1994, Gustavo was blessed with his first and only granddaughter, Maranda Katnic.
On April 22, 2022 he became a great-grandfather to Ivar Michael Stonestreet.
In 2004, Patricia and daughter Maranda moved to Wilmington, NC to pursue a career opportunity. Luz and Gustavo later settled in Wilmington, NC in 2006.
Gustavo had such an adoring character. He loved everyone, and he never knew a stranger. He was the best father, brother, friend, and grandfather that anyone could have. He was always the life of the party. He loved to have fun, and everywhere he went everyone knew his name. He loved to fish, grill, gamble and he never turned down a good cocktail.
His ability to light up a room will live on with his family forever.
Until we meet again, we love you
Papi, Bello, Nacho.
