Joan Marie Bevilacqua (née Pilkington), age 81, passed away on February 10, 2024. She was born on June 21, 1942, in Rochester, NY, and later moved to Buffalo, NY, where she attended college and met her beloved husband, Arthur Bevilacqua. Joan and Art spent their retirement years in Fort Myers, Florida, and most recently in Wilmington, NC, where they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2023. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, William and Katherine Pilkington.
Together, Joan and Art raised three children: Susan (Mark) Ryan of Wilmington, NC; Philip (Joanne) Bevilacqua of State College, PA; and Steven (Sonda) Bevilacqua of Johns Creek, GA.
Joan was a cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren: Katherine Ryan (Emanuele Iannaccone), Jonathan Ryan (Brittany Florkiewicz), and Delaney Ryan; Sarah, Erin, and Chloe Bevilacqua; and Jacob and Claire Bevilacqua. She also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to Eloise (Ellie) Iannaccone, and sister-in-law to Marcia Bevilacqua.
Joan was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in gardening and golfing. She had a talent for quilting and lovingly crafted baby quilts for her future great-grandchildren. Joan also served as the president of the school board, showcasing her passion for education and community involvement. She had a deep affection for all animals, especially her cherished dogs Taffy, Goldie, and Toby. Joan loved to explore new places through travel, enjoy friendly games of bridge, and occasionally try her luck at the casinos.
Joan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, creativity, and zest for life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
