Margaret Buchanan

Margaret (Louden) Buchanan (Marge), age 85, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 9, 2024. She was born on September 11, 1939 in Lundin Links, Scotland, to the late William and Isabella (Cameron) Louden.

Marge graduated with degrees in education from both Moray House College of Education (Edinburgh, Scotland) and Syracuse University (NY). Her passion for education and adventure led her to the United States, where she dedicated 35 years to teaching special education in upstate New York, serving in school districts including Holland Patent, Ilion, Poland, and Utica.

Marge’s life was enriched by her love of travel, particularly cruising, and her artistic pursuits in painting and drawing. She found joy in dancing, playing the piano, cultivating beautiful flower gardens, driving her red convertible, and spending time at the beach. In her later years, she took great pleasure in observing the beautiful birds that visited her backyard.

Marge is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, Charles (Buck) Buchanan of Wilmington, NC; her daughters, Heather Augar of Morris Plains, NJ and Fiona Augar of Port Deposit, MD; her brother, Richard Louden of Glasgow, Scotland; her niece, Sheila (Brian) O’Donnell and family of Glasgow, Scotland, and her nephew, Richard (Helen) Louden and family of Hexham, England.

Aquamation services are entrusted to Tranquility Cremation by Aquamation. There will be no formal remembrance services. Marge chose to be cremated, with her ashes to be scattered in the ocean to return to Scotland.
