Marilynn "Johannah" Elliott English

October 21, 1955 — August 9, 2024

Johannah Elliott English, age 68 of Willard, passed peacefully at home Friday August 9, 2024.

She was born October 21, 1955 in Columbus County, daughter of Sarah Brown Macon and the late Brantley Elliott. She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Elliott.

She is survived and missed by her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, Mike English; son, Caleb English and wife Alaison of Yorktown, VA; grandson, Bryce English; mother and stepfather, Sarah and Quint Macon; two brothers, Markus Elliott and wife Diane of Bladenboro and Marion Elliott and wife Cheryl of Smithfield, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graduate of UNCW, Johannah worked in the 1980s and 1990s at Wilmington Health Associates and later Hanover Medical Specialists as a cardiac sonographer. She was an active member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church and later Burgaw Presbyterian Church, and throughout her life participated in multiple Sunday school classes, Presbyterian Women events, and Bible Study Fellowship. She also became very active in Cub Scout leadership in Pack 220 as her son was progressing through Scouts.

Despite living with a debilitating disease that robbed her of mobility, memory, and independence relatively early in life, Johannah perennially maintained a bright outlook, in part because of a deep understanding of the Serenity Prayer. As evidenced by her drawings and writings, she had an unparalleled appreciation for the smallest of beautiful things. Even on her most challenging days, her overall disposition was pleasant and she would generally, with a big smile, report that she was “simply marvelous,” which was her trademark self-descriptor. She loved her family with all of her heart and was likewise always thrilled to hold the hand of a new acquaintance. Near the end of her life, seeing and interacting with her grandson especially gave her much joy.

A celebration of Johannah’s life will be on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at noon at Harrell’s Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend William Hill Pearsall will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service at Burgaw Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.

Funeral arraignments have been entrusted to Harrell's Funeral Home in Burgaw.

Aquamation Services have been entrusted to Tranquility Cremation by Aquamation.

Memorial contributions can be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care of Wilmington.
