WILMINGTON- It is with great sadness that the family of Romesh Amin, 83, of Wilmington, NC announce his peaceful passing at home on April 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Rosemary (nee Booth), and his 4 adoring children: Monica (Brad) Sherrod, Cheryl (Michael) Weir, Kimberly (Kevin) Clayton, and Raaj (Andrea) Amin; as well as his 8 grandchildren who were his greatest pride and joy: Andrew, Daniel, Olivia, Sophie, Alex, Bella, Lillian, and Eliza. He is also survived by his older sister, Subhadraben Amin, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents Vrajbhai and Dahiben Amin, and siblings: Govindbhai Amin, Bhadrubhai Amin, Shardaben Patel, Kanubhai Amin, and his twin brother Rashmi Amin.
Born February 10, 1939, in Sojitra, India, he and Rashmi entered into this world weighing less than 3 pounds each but quickly grew into happy and healthy boys who were doted on by their 5 older siblings.
In 1960, Romesh left behind the comforts and security of his home and family, and courageously ventured to the United States to attend Missouri School of Mines and Kansas State University. A highly educated man, he earned multiple degrees including advanced degrees in Chemical, Petroleum, and Metallurgic Engineering.
In 1966, he met the love of his life, a newly emigrated beautiful Filipina nurse named Rosemary, in the windy city of Chicago. Rosemary fondly recalls that it was “love at first sight”, and they married on December 23, 1966. Romesh's work as a chemical engineer took them to multiple cities where they raised their family: from Chicago to Pittsburgh to Ann Arbor, and finally to Warminster, PA. In 2017, they moved to their retirement dream house in Wilmington, NC where they spent 5 happy years.
A hard worker all of his life, Romesh still managed to make time to enjoy his many passions: traveling, spending time with his family (including many, many hours watching his grandchildren's sporting events), playing games of Bridge and Big Fool, and enjoying Rosemary's delicious cooking.
At the center of it all, Romesh took great pride as the patriarch of the family. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds. He was always there for his many siblings, children, and his vast extended family and close friends. He was always the first to offer advice, encouraging words, and financial assistance whenever needed. His selflessness and generosity will forever be remembered.
A memorial service/celebration of life will be planned for summer 2022. Memorial donations may be made to The Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation (1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401), the hospice who provided immeasurable comfort and support to Romesh and family in his final days.
