Stephany Ann Del Ré, age 67, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024, following a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born on November 1, 1956, to Marie Fulford Del Ré and the late Benedict John Vincent Del Ré. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, David “Crockett” Long, and numerous beloved pets.
Stephany was raised in Washington D.C. and spent her summers in Holden Beach, NC, where her mother’s side of the family still resides. She graduated from UNCW with two Bachelor of Arts degrees and went on to receive two Master’s degrees, one from George Washington University and one from ECU.
Stephany wore many hats in life. Whether as an environmental scientist working at Camp Lejeune or a middle school teacher, she was a hard worker and devoted to improving the lives of others. Her last profession was as a mental health counselor, a role in which she enjoyed providing pro bono counseling to serve her community.
Stephany always put her children first. She was thrilled to become a grandmother and for her family to grow. She was a devoted wife and partner to her late husband, David, and they enjoyed living by the beach and playing with their dogs.
Stephany strove to make people laugh and always had a story to share to brighten someone’s day. She loved all animals and enjoyed tending to her yard. Stephany was an active member of Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, and an avid supporter of the Landfall Foundation. She loved her friends and family, and she always extended a helping hand to anyone in need.
Stephany is survived by her mother; her children Alexandra Marie Bradley (Ross) and Mark Winton Johnson (Brianna); her siblings Michele Rioux (Michael) and Benedict J. Del Ré (Anita); grandchildren Logan Cole Johnson and Isla Ashley Bradley; nephew Michael V. Rioux (Maureen); and dogs Jack and Wren.
Stephany’s service will be held at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk in Wrightsville Beach, NC, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Chapel on the Boardwalk’s Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief at
