On Saturday, April 20, 2024 Thomas Michael Bodnar of both Gaithersburg, MD and Leland, NC passed away at the age of 77 years.
We are so saddened by the tremendous loss of a beloved husband, father, and Pop-Pop and we are especially heartbroken that we will no longer be able to experience his quick wit, iconic sense of humor and sarcastic personality that he was so lovingly known for.
Tom is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 50 years, Annette Bodnar, his daughter and well-loved son-in-law; Angela Marie Allen and husband Matthew Gordon Allen of Marblehead, MA and their four boys whom affectionally called him Pop-Pop. He dearly loved his four grandchildren and so enjoyed being with them – Collin, Hudson, Rowan and Bryson. Tom also leaves behind his loving sister Nancy R. Metta (Stan), and brothers Timothy W. Bodnar and William S. Bodnar, niece Samantha A. Metta (Robert Anderson), and great-nephew Timothy J. Metta. He is predeceased by his parents George T. Bodnar and Mary Annetta Bodnar, and nephew Thomas W. Metta.
Tom was an avid golfer throughout his life. One of his greatest accomplishments was winning the District Amateur Golf Tournament at the Bethesda Country Club. Some of his other notable highlights included shooting two hole in ones over his career – one at Montgomery Village Country Club and one at Washingtonian Golf Club. He also enjoyed sharing stories about his claim to fame when he caddied for Jack Nicholas at Lakewood Country Club for a PGA Tour event. In his later years, he enjoyed engaging and passing on his spirit of competition to his grandkids; challenging them at chess, ping pong, pool, and various card games and he was beginning to worry as they were quickly closing in on being able to finally beat their cherished Pop-Pop.
Tom’s legacy lives on through his family and friends and the memories they shared. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
